The Importance of Flushing and Replenishing Your Soil

After enduring what felt like an endless winter, we’ve now entered the eagerly anticipated start of the season in the green industry! As we transition, we must keep some fundamental nutritional concepts in mind. To do this, let’s imagine our stand of grass as a completed painting. Our painting may resemble a masterpiece by Van Gogh or a creation by a child with ten minutes and many open paint cans. While beauty is in the eye of the beholder, let’s assume your desire is more the “Van Gogh” route!

Imagine having a fresh canvas to create your masterpiece. Each spring, we’re granted a similar opportunity with our soils. When starting anew, there are two key aspects to consider: flushing and replenishing.

While we may not be able to change our soil, we can start fresh with what’s available to the plant. You can achieve this by performing a soil “flush” and then “replenish” with available nutrients.

Foliar-Pak offers excellent options for flushing your turf. Per our Soil Flush program, we suggest applying (and heavily watering in) a combination of 3 oz per 1000 sq. ft. of Command, 3 oz per 1000 sq. ft. of Armament Concentrate, and 3-6 oz per 1000 sq. ft. of Base Calcium. This program aids in flushing out the bad guys, such as sodium and bicarbonates, while also eliminating ratio imbalances between desired nutrients.

Flushing the scene is a great practice, but it also removes the good guys: calcium, magnesium, potassium, minors, etc (hence, starting with a clean canvas). You’ve removed both the good and the bad, allowing you to start clean. It’s essential now to fill that empty canvas with a nutrient masterpiece!

Foliar-Pak offers a range of programmatic solutions for replenishing the soil solution and deciding on foliar nutrition. These solutions include recurring products such as Foundation Forty, Amperage, Promote, Minors, Armament P, and Calcium.

Let’s explore why each of these products is beneficial in spring for replenishing the plant, considering both foliar and soil solution perspectives.

Foliar-Pak Foundation Forty
Foundation Forty is a blend of proprietary and highly specific amino acids that support chlorophyll production, carbon and nitrogen assimilation, and the building of anti-stress osmolytes. Together, these benefits help the plant produce energy again and more effectively withstand stressful conditions.

Foliar-Pak Amperage
Amperage supplies the plant with available minors that support chlorophyll production and photosynthesis. It also assists the plant in producing energy during periods of slow metabolism, such as the spring and fall shoulder seasons. Amperage contains multiple food sources for microbes and has been reformulated with a substantial amount of amino acids specific to photosynthetic efficiency.

Foliar-Pak Colonise
Colonise contains well-rounded carbon to feed the microbial community and support the plant’s production of stress-relieving hormones. It performs both foliarly and in the soil, offering maximum versatility. Colonise sustains fertility and carbon-buffered balance, mitigating the impact of abiotic plant stressors like salinity, traffic, and extreme temperatures.

Foliar-Pak Minors
Minors supplies secondary and micronutrients to aid in recovery, enhance chlorophyll production, boost density, stimulate rooting, and promote increased carbohydrate production.

Foliar-Pak Armament P
Phosphorus is crucial in the energy production and protein synthesis needed for rooting and building tissue. It is a critical component of ATP (the “P”), one of the primary energy sources for plants. Armament P utilizes Armament’s nutrient-protecting technology to deliver phosphorus in a form that is readily usable and available to the roots.

Foliar-Pak Calcium
Calcium is essential for cell integrity and driving new roots, as it’s a part of the root cap. Foliar-Pak Calcium has a unique blend of both high- and low-molecular-weight metabolites, delivering available Calcium to both the roots and shoots.

Foliar-Pak Armament K
Potassium is one of the primary macronutrients, which means it is essential for plant growth and development as well as overall plant health. It’s also a base cation, making it an important brush stroke in the painting of that empty canvas. Potassium plays an important role in regulating water within the plant.

As we move into another season, let’s remember to start with a new soil canvas via “flush” and fill that blank soil canvas with the nutrients plants need.
